My ‘off grid’ Experience

So as most of you know I did my week of trying to live “off grid”. I think I did pretty well but did end up making a few exceptions. Here are my journal entries…

Ah, I’m sitting on my balcony relaxing, it feels so wonderful after a long day. The crisp night air, only the gentlest breeze. I can see the stars. Today was my first day “off-grid” so to speak. I did make a couple of exceptions but feel good about my beginning. I started out not using any power but water but soon decided I really could not go without using the stove for a week so this was my first. My second was the phone after all it was mother’s day. I have to call my mom and her friend to wish them happy mothers day.

This morning I awoke to grey clouds and rain. It was a rough morn but we muddled through. I got my hair fixed today and, oh yes discovered a grand new  remedy. I woke this morn only to discover a large bug bite on my cheek. So, I thought to myself ‘what could help?’. It was itching like crazy and was already enormous so I went to the kitchen, got some baking soda, mixed it with just enough water to make a paste and slathered it on the hideous bump. I left it on there until it dried and began to flake. When I looked in the mirror it was completely gone and no itching either! What a wonderful cure!

So, it’s Friday. I have done a couple loads of laundry. I should have come up with a plan for washing the kiddo’s diapers before I began this week. They just wouldn’t get dry hanging up.  But hey, no tele, computer or lights so I think I’ve done well. My friend keeps warning me about reading by candle light, oh well my daughter broke my glasses just at the start of this week to boot so I probably shouldn’t be reading in the dark but that apparently didn’t stop me. It’s actually been kind of fun! My daughter and I have been doing quite a lot together and I feel we are even closer than we were before. I think what I’m taking away from this experience is ‘all things in moderation’ so even after this week I want to keep it to a minimum. I’m always telling my daughter ‘people are more important than things’ and I think I really showed her that this week!

I have had request to know the money I saved. I will work it out and let you know when I get my next bill.
